My fellow Senior Design classmates and I choose for all our Capstone projects to revolve around the word “SPACE” and its varied meanings/definitions, to present at our Design Capstone Senior Exhibit 2022.
Before beginning this project, I knew I wanted to design something that expressed my love for New Orleans, my Spirituality, my abilities as an Artist, and lessons I learned upon moving here. Thus, my project explores SPACE in terms of the community and the spirit that create these special “spaces” we live within and cherish. Tapping into the spirit & soul of New Orleans and things that have touched my own evolving spirituality resulted in a reinterpreted 22-card Major Arcana deck, rich with symbolism. I choose a typographic font that mimicked my style of illustration and curated a specific “Nola” color palette for all the digital renderings to follow. Illustrations of ironwork, inspired by the Gallier House in the quarter to be specific, help to tie together the card packaging with the cards themselves.
As a dedication to a city that showed love when faced with hate and fear in the face of evil. Destructive patterns come around to regenerative places when they are persisted in tenaciously. Thank you, New Orleans, for your unconditional love and everything you’ve given me!
